Fourteenth Tee Construction
The addition of this tee added 35 yards to our Biarritz hole. This is the distance that Raynor would normally design this type of par three, but was cut short at Dedham due to the polo stables and outbuildings.
We started this when we were building the 18th green chipping area, hauling that material to this location.
While we have this view here, would like to share that the long term plan here is to route the maintenance road in front of this tee to the back of it. with this improvement, we could plant a screen to obscure the maintenance building from the view of the golfer.
Our goal was to get this tee up high enough so that the bunkers fronting the green could be seen. We also wanted to save the Norway Spruce on the right.
The crew is leveling, squaring up the tee, and adding soil.
This would be the area where we want to move the entrance road to. This is also a picture of a goat path shaped into the back of the tee, an idea I borrowed from Boston Golf Club after a recent trip.
Spreading and leveling the tee mix (60% sand/40% soil) to a six inch depth. The hole being down hill meant the pitch of the tee goes downhill with the hole. We aim to pitch the tee 1.5% to 2%, or 2 inches every 10 feet. This sheds water and helps the tee blend in with the land better.
Also below at the bottom of the picture you can see the start to the irrigation installation.
