Ninth Hole Bunker Work

The ninth hole, being an Alps Hole, lacked a cross bunker in front of the green.  The initial exploration seemed to reveal that it was not put in due some large rock obstructions.  Below are removing that rock.

We shaped it out trying to make sure it fit in...it was tight.  On the right here the green had a spine that we did not want to loose as a feature so that limited how far in that direction we could go with the bunker.  On the left side of this picture, we needed to make slope look natural.

Drainage installed and the sodding operation well in progress.

The finished product below fits in well with other sharp angled features at Dedham.

Here is the start of the fairway bunker work on this hole.  The bunker on the left was reoriented at a 45 degree angle to play and fairway will be installed leading up to it...both changes bring the bunker into play.

Tbe bunker on the left is coming along and we are starting the bunker on the right.

The excavator is shaping the bunker, the loader up on the mound is working with the crew to expose the huge rock that is under the mound.

The three fairway bunkers at the top of the hill were removed and we are prepping it to become fairway.

Cleaned up and adding irrigation.  The ninth fairway is a very uneven fairway and we tried to mimic that with how we shaped this new fairway.

2009

In looking at the picture above and below, this hole has changed a good deal in 6 years.  The rock behind the green is exposed, the rock in the fairway is exposed, the drainage has improved, the bunkers at the top of the hill have been removed, the fairway bunker on the left has been rebuilt and improved, and the bunker the right has been added.  This picture exemplifies the rugged character of the Dedham Club.
